What it’s like to work at Carterwood?

Whether you’re fresh out of university or have several years’ experience, making the decision to apply for a job is a big one. To help you understand what it’s like to work at Carterwood, we’ve spoken to three employees who each have a unique story to share.

Today, we’re sharing our interview with accounts assistant, Natalie Green.

  1. Why did you choose to apply for a job with Carterwood?

The Carterwood core values stood out to me. ‘Do it right’, and ‘do it fast’ piqued my interest. They had also recently been named one of the ‘Best places to work in property’ and I really liked the idea of working for a company with a stellar reputation.

  1. You joined Carterwood in 2019, what have you achieved during this time?

I’ve worked part-time at Carterwood for four months and it’s been a very exciting start. My second day included a trip out with the team to Longleat to celebrate their award win, which was great fun. The induction and training programme have been great, and I have expanded my knowledge of the sector and within the finance function. I now have responsibility for accounts, credit control, and sales and purchase ledger.

  1. How would you describe the office environment?

Fun, friendly, fast-paced.

  1. And what’s the team like to work with?

The company is very friendly and welcoming, which always helps with any first day nerves. I felt included in the team right from the start and everyone makes a big effort to make you feel welcome. Carterwood work incredibly hard, but they make sure there is always time for a laugh.

  1. What’s surprised you the most?

How much responsibility I have been given within my first few months. I have worked in finance for over six years, yet the training I have had in my first four months at Carterwood has been the most valuable and helped me to progress the most.

  1. What’s been your most valuable lesson so far?

Always ask the questions! You never have to be afraid to approach any member of the team if there’s something you’re unsure of. The whole team are more than happy to help each other in any way they can, even if what you’re asking is not their job.

  1. What do you love about what you do?

I’ve always loved working in finance, but getting to work with Jane and the rest of the Carterwood team – who all have great knowledge and experience – has been the highlight for me so far.

  1. Has your experience at Carterwood changed your career plans/aspirations?

Yes – definitely! The team, especially the senior management team, are incredibly encouraging and supportive, and I know I can take my career as far as it can go.

  1. What’s the social life at Carterwood like?

Since joining four months ago, I have been part of many activities and events. The first was celebrating the company’s award success. We took part in a pirate themed treasure hunt around Bristol harbourside for the summer social, have had picnics and themed lunches, and regularly go for ‘after work drinks’ at the local pub. The Social and Wellness committee are great at coming up with activities, and support the team to be happy and healthy. All staff are encouraged to take a walk when they need one, which is fantastic!

  1. What tip would you give to anyone looking to apply for a job or placement at Carterwood?

Do your research and be yourself! If you like to work hard and have fun at the same time – then Carterwood is the place for you.
