Carterwood join Tour de Barchester to raise awareness and funds to combat loneliness and enable people to be active and engaged

Carterwood are delighted to support our longstanding client Barchester as they embark on the Tour de Barchester 2023.

Now in its second year, the Tour de Barchester is taking place from 6th to 9th June and will see riders face a challenging 4-day cycle ride covering 276 miles on the south coast, starting in Exeter, Devon, and finishing in Purley, South London, at Chestnut Gardens care home, visiting 15 care homes on the way.

The Tour de Barchester is raising money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation, Which helps older people and other adults with a disability or mental health problems across England, Scotland and Wales to help people engage with others in their local community, in order to combat loneliness and enable people to be active and engaged.

Our very own Dan Madden, head of sales and marketing, will be joining the team on the first day of the cycle, covering a 65-mile route between Exeter and Sherbourne – a beautiful but hilly stretch along the south coast.

We catch up with Dan ahead of the cycle:

“Barchester’s Charitable Foundation’s focus on combatting loneliness and enabling people to be active and engaged will, without doubt, be close to the hearts of everyone in our sector.

Despite being a keen cyclist, I am sure that hills of East Devon and South Somerset will be extremely challenging. I take my hat off to all those that are doing the full distance across the 4-day cycle – it’s no mean feat and I hope that their efforts generate the support they deserve.

I’m most looking forward to seeing the beautiful countryside, stopping in on several Barchester homes (which I am sure will offer more than welcome rest breaks), greeting some of Barchester’s residents, and generally spending a day burning some calories for a great charity!”
